In 1973, the dystopian film Soylent Green portrayed the world of today as a civilization on the brink of collapse, plagued by severe shortages of food, water, and shelter resulting from excessive population growth. The intellectual foundations of this prophecy were laid by the 1968 book, The Population Bomb.
